New “Wrath of the Titans” Images Released.

No. I still don’t understand why they felt the need for a sequel. And, no, I also don’t understand why they felt the need to remake the 1981 original starring Harry Hamlin. But, nonetheless, here’s a few new pix from the second installment of the reimagined sword-and-sandals film.

Star Sam Worthington

Star Rosamund Pike

Here’s a synopsis:

“A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus—the demigod son of Zeus—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.
Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.
Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth.
Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.”

New “Phantom Menace” Featurette Makes Movie Even Dumber Than It Was Before.

Here’s a new “Phantom Menace” teaser featurette designed to lure the young’uns into the 3D re-release of the “Star Wars” trilogy. If it’s possible, it has made the movie even more annoying than it was when it was first released.

Much (cyber) ink has been spilled here and elsewhere about how exploitative this whole thing feels. Now, adding insult to injury, comes a featurette that, instead treating kids like the actual sentient intelligent beings they are, treats them like semi-literate morons:

Odd, but I don’t recall being baby-talked to when I was a seven-year-old lining up for the first “Star Wars” flick in 1977. George Lucas needs to stop. Now.

New “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” Super Bowl Spot Arrives.

No. I don’t know why they felt the need for a sequel either. But someone must have seen the first movie and liked it.

Here’s the Super Bowl commercial for “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” which hits theaters June 29. Channing Tatum, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and … gaspBruce Wilis star.

Have “The Avengers” Villains Been Revealed?

Pointing to some grainy footage from the new teaser trailer for the official trailer, Comic Book Movie offers a theory:

“There is however, a being and a race created by said being, that does seem to fit everything we have seen or heard about this film. The High Evolutionary and his “New Men” or “Knights of Wundagore” (who are not aliens/differ greatly in appearance from each other/utilize unusual armor and strange sword and spear like weapons) seem to fit the news, rumors and speculation we’ve all read about over the course of the last year. He is an incredibly powerful individual who has been at odds with The Avengers (as well as almost every other Marvel hero) many times over the years. He has strong ties to most of Marvels “cosmic” characters (especially Warlock and The Inhumans). He has been in possession of the Infinity gems (he is the being who originally gave Warlock the Soul Gem). He has clashed with THOR many times (this could explain the existence of The Infinity Gauntlet in Odin’s vault).

Now we get to the thing that placed me on this train of thought. As I stated earlier, there have been reports that the aliens in the film differed in appearance from each other and wear strange armor to go along with photo’s that show them using swords and spear like weapons. Yesterday, we finally got our first look at these aliens using some sort of flying cycles. That is where the connection came in and everything else seemed to fit. The High Evolutionary’s self created army, “The New Men” or “Knights of Wundagore” ride Atomic Steeds that seem to be an identical match for the flying crafts we viewed in yesterday’s teaser.”

New Sascha Baron Cohen “Dictator” Super Bowl Commercial Released.

This one comes courtesy of Brit film site HeyUGuys, which nabbed it from the UK tab The Sun. It’s the commercial that’s supposed to air during this month’s Super Bowl match-up between the New York Giants and New England Patriots. Around my house, we call it the “Who Cares?” Bowl.

They note:

“Paramount have released this new commercial / trailer for Sacha Baron Cohen’s new movie, The Dictator which is set to hit the UK 18th May. It has an amazing cast which included Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley, Jason Mantzoukas, Anna Faris, Fred Melamed, Rock Kohli, Megan Fox and John C. Reilly but after watching the previous trailer and this new TV spot, it seems to have one of the most risque scripts that we’ve seen from Cohen. The man is used to being sued and causing controversy however so I guess he’s not too worried.”

Is A “Death Wish” Remake In The Works?

Sure looks that way.

/Film reports that filmmaker Joe Carnahan will write and direct a reboot of Charles Bronson’s hyperviolent 1974 classic.

In what may be the world’s longest Tweet, Carnahan gave his fans the skinny:

“Guys. I’m doing ‘Death Wish.’ But this version is a re-imagining of the book and set in present day Los Angeles. The L.A. of ‘Collateral.’ It’s on buses, cabs, metro trains. I want to show an unseen version of L.A. L.A. on foot. Prowling. Hunting. The vast emptiness of downtown. … Refn did a phenomenal job shooting L.A. It took on a different dimension. That’s the key. … The only role I’m writing in ‘Death Wish’ which will mark the ONE time I’ve ever written exclusively for an actor, will be for.”
