Hayley Atwell Talks Peggy Carter and Captain America DVD.

From ComicBookMovie, the comely British actress talks about her turn as heroine Peggy Carter.

On what drew her to the role of Peggy Carter:

“That’s why I loved the script and what Joe [Johnston, director] was looking for in the actress. I’m quite a strong person and don’t see myself as someone who needs saving, so I just felt like Peggy was someone I could inhabit quite easily. And I grew to love her. As strong as she is, she’s not without her insecurities and own complicated life. That to me is always fascinating when I play a part.”

On her physical change for the film:

“I was worried that once it stopped, I would instantly get really fat – go crazy in some kind of food breakdown. But by the time filming wrapped, my body was in such a different state that I didn’t want to go back. Granted, I’m not doing those crazy workouts, but it’s a reminder of how lucky I am to be doing what I do for a living – every time I get down, I try and think of my friends who are out of work actors that would kill to be in this position. I’m thankful for everything I have and gratitude goes a long way in helping you move stronger through life.”

On her now infamous groping of Chris Evans:

“I don’t know where it came from, but when we filmed his reveal as “Captain America,” I literally reached out and grabbed his man boobs [laughs] – it almost felt unreal. The first time we shot that, I held on for quite a while, which the director felt was a bit much for the film. I was told to do a “light brush over his nipple” – I guess that was more appropriate [laughs]. I was so shocked, I just had to make sure it was real. And let me tell you, it was real and pert and covered in oil and it looked extraordinary in person.”

Netflix Loses 800k Subscribers

Bad news this

“Unhappy Netflix customers voted with their wallets, with the video-rental company dropping 800,000 U.S. subscribers in the third quarter after an ill-advised decision to split apart its DVD-plus-streaming plans — and the company anticipates shedding at least 2.6 million DVD accounts in the fourth quarter.”

Zooey Deschanel Nails The National Anthem.

The “New Girl” actress — and one-half of the duo She & Him — sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the World Series match between the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers the other night.

And she nailed it. No vibrato. No melisma. Just straight up, unadorned singing, the way the song ought to be sung. Two thumbs-up.

The second movie hasn’t even hit theaters, and via Empire, we learn that Warners is already plotting a third installment to its successful “Sherlock Holmes” franchise. One of the most gratifying things about the last few years is the mid-career flowering of star Robert Downey Jr.

Here’s the nut graf:

“It’s a sign of confidence in the continuing appeal of Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law and Guy Ritchie’s take on the world of Sherlock Holmes: Warner Bros. has hired writer Drew Pearce to start cranking out ideas for a third outing for the titular ‘tec.

Though the second film, subtitled A Game Of Thrones Shadows, isn’t set to hit cinemas for a couple of months, the buzz is apparently very positive, which is one reason why the studio might be eager to get cracking on another film. And anyway, hiring a writer isn’t quire as big a commitment as making any other deals, so it’s an easy step to take.”

“Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” 3D Trailer Released.

Oh Man …
… 3D Jar Jar. On the other hand, the battle scenes could be good if done correctly. But it’s unlikely to improve the story or the acting.

“Avengers” Director Whedon Films Stealth “Much Ado About Nothing.”

Of course, Benedick is a vampire and Beatrice has superpowers. But this is insanely cool nonetheless:

The Wrap has the exclusive story:

“Joss Whedon has directed, adapted, cast and filmed an entire movie — an adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” — in secret, TheWrap has learned.

Whedon, who created “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel” and wrote and directed Marvel’s upcoming “The Avengers,” wrote and directed the movie, an individual close to the project told TheWrap Sunday night.

On Sunday night, a website appeared announcing that Whedon’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” which it says is “based on a play,” has completed principal photography. Two people close to the project confirmed that Whedon had indeed filmed a secret movie, and only announced it on Sunday night.

The independent film doesn’t yet have distribution.

Actors include Sean Maher, who starred on Whedon’s “Firefly” and in his 2005 movie “Serenity;” Fran Kranz, who stars in “The Cabin in the Woods,” which Whedon wrote and is producing; “Castle,” “Firefly” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star Nathan Fillion and “Angel” and “Cabin” star Amy Acker. Spencer Treat Clark and Jillian Morgese, newcomers to Whedon’s projects, also star.

As I have mentioned elsewhere in these pages, the 1993 version of The Bard’s comedy, directed by Kenneth Branagh, and starring Branagh and Emma Thompson, is one of my favorite-ever Shakespearean plays. It’ll be interesting to see how Whedon treats the source material and where he sets it.

What’s The Worst First Date Movie?

Not a first date movie. Trust me, I know.

Empire asks this question:

What’s the worst possible movie you can take a girl to see on a first date? Their answer: “Shame” with Carey Mulligan and Michael Fassbender. The film’s quite sexually graphic and she’ll be headed to the exits in no time flat.

Other nominees: “Crash,” “The Human Centipede,” (duh) and “Fight Club.”

Here’s the nut graf:

“Understand, we’re not saying that these are necessarily bad films, just films that risk making you look like a bad person. And the problem is identifying which ones they are. For example, during a Twitter discussion of this point the lovely @merazad mentioned Deep Blue Sea as a terrible first date movie, since, she said, it’s a terrible movie. But the gentleman who accompanied her ended up loving it while she rooted for the sharks to eat the cast. Actually, I’d beg to disagree there: I think that’s not a bad result. At least you know immediately that your movie tastes are not compatible. In the same way, the date I went on to see Fight Club proved most productive: he didn’t like it, and I immediately knew that it wasn’t going to work. Ultimately, first-date movies that one of you loves and the other loathes may not be a bad indicator of compatibility.”

Eizabeth Olsen: “Martha Marcy May Marlene” Star Talks About The Film’s Confounding Ending.

She’s The Olsen Sister Everyone’s Talking About.

“Martha Marcy May Marlene” star Elizabeth Olsen talks to The Wrap about her breakout role and fear and her newfound fame.

Here’s the nut graf:

“Q: Ultimately, the idea came out of my fear of cults, and fear of conforming. Religion always scared me growing up, and large conforming groups. But I was still like a huge soccer fan and would go to the stadium and be just as conforming as anything, so there’s some hypocrisy there.

I found a story about a girl who escaped from a group that turned violent. The leader of the group later tracked her down, and instead of threatening her he gave her money and wished her well. And that struck me as a great place to start.

Elizabeth Olsen: True fear really fascinates me. This paranoid state that she’s in was fascinating, and trying to figure out hope, and maybe some sort of light and possibility was also interesting. Every part of my body felt game and ready to do.

Q: I didn’t want somebody who was just cut off and depressed, because then who cares? But when I met Lizzie, she was just the opposite of Martha. She was very vibrant, a bright personality, very infectious. So I thought that that, underneath Martha’s shell, could create something interesting.

Olsen: It felt special to me, but I also was coming at it from a naïve point of view of not really understanding what it meant to get a distributor, or to get a studio behind you, or a festival buzz.”

Frank Miller: “Sin City 2” To Focus On Jessica Alba.

Putting Aside The Question …
… of whether the world really needs a sequel to “Sin City,” creator Frank Miller shares a few tidbits about the sequel, which is written, and set to begin shooting in the spring:

“The movie will include four stories “A Dame to Kill For,” “Just Another Saturday,” and two new stories. As I said before one of the new stories will focus on Jessica Alba’s character Nancy Callahan’s character in the first one. And the good news is that Jessica Alba said a few months ago that she would be happy to reprise the role. As for the other story, it is still a mystery.”
