Sequels The World Doesn’t Need Dept: Someone’s Writing A “Top Gun” Sequel.

From TotalFilm comes the news that Peter Craig (“The Town“) has been hired by Paramount to pen a sequel to the 1986 military recruiting flick starring Tom Cruise, Anthony Edwards, Val Kilmer and Kelly McGillis.

Here’s the nut graf:

“As yet, there has been no official confirmation that Tom Cruise will return, although it is widely anticipated that the star will make an appearance in some capacity, with original helmer Tony Scott also keen to resume directorial duties.

Cruise has previously expressed an interest in reprising his role as Maverick, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer also thought to be amenable to the idea.

“I hope we can figure this out to go do it again,” said Cruise. “If we can find a story that we all want to do, we all want to make a film that is in the same kind of tone as the other one and shoot it in the same way as we shot Top Gun. We’re working on it”

Lynn Collins Talks “John Carter.”

ComicBookMovie has posted an interview with actress Lynn Collins, who stars opposite Taylor Kitsch in Disney’s big-screen, big-budget adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ pulp character John Carter.

The Mouse House has been trying super-hard to build buzz for the movie starring a character that most people have never heard of. A week or so ago, the studio sweetened the pot, announcing that it would give arty prints to the midnight screening, opening-night iMax attendees. Will it be enough? Credit them for working hard.

Here’s the interview:

And, for good measure, an official synopsis:

“From Academy Award®–winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter”—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.”

New “21 Jump Street” Clip Announces A Sequel?

Here’s a clip from the upcoming “21 Jump Street” reboot starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

I’m still mystified as to why Hollywood chose to reboot the teen-cop series from the Fox Network’s very early years. Now, according to HeyUGuys, a sequel may even be in the works before the film opens. This just goes to show that Hollywood’s ways are not only mystifying, they are also exceedingly annoying.

But here’s the clip:
