Universal confirms “Snow White and the Huntsman” sequel.

Well that didn’t take long.

A sequel to the epic re-telling of the classic Grimms’ fairy tale has already been greenlighted just a week after the movie, which stars Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart, opened at the multiplex.

Brit filmsite HeyUGuys has the skinny:

“It was inevitable really that even a movie which didn’t do amazingly well with the critics (although our Ben gave it 4*) was going to get a sequel when it has the powerhouses that are Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth (to name but a few) in it! Deadline are reporting that Universal have confirmed a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman and that it’ll be done ‘on a fast track’.

The question now is will Rupert Sanders who directed the first movie come back or will we see another person take on the reigns as director? Either way, David Koepp is already writing the script for the movie.”

Drive-In

A nice history lesson here on a vanishing part of the filmgoing experience.

Judy Hansen's avatarJudy's Jewels

The first drive-in opened on June 6th in 1933 in New Jersey. Once upon a time there were over 5000 of them. Today the number is around 360. Get your pj’s on and let’s go to the drive-in!! I have fond memories as a child of going to the drive-in with my parents, but even more fun memories of going with my husband (then boyfriend)! There have been many jokes about drive-ins and what really went on in the cars. Like this one, What do you call a drive-in, wall-to-wall car-petting! Thanks to the privacy factor, it made drive-ins notorious as “Passion Pits”! The back seat became the first place many young women and young men, lost their virginity! Back then the car was your private viewing room where you could talk and not disturb anyone. I’m just sayin………………

Review: Snow White and the Huntsman

Another take on the retelling starring Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Let’s set aside my deep-seeded belief that Kristen Stewart can’t act out of a box. We’ll also put aside my girl-crush on Charlize Theron and the drool-worthly-ness of Chris Hemsworth in scruff.

I wanted to see this becaue of the darkness of the plot-no funny silly Julia Roberts here, but a dark fairytale worthy of the Grimm stories.

UGH! OK, sure, it’s a fairytale, but come on, people! I don’t care how hot Chris Hemsworth is in his huntsman gear, he’s a commoner and no princess can marry a commoner in that day and age (medieval times). None of them. No.

And what was the point of the duke? To show that Snow White is a modern gal and can choose her own destiny? Choose her own man?

Works perfectly in a modern story, even a modern retellling that takes place in a modern timeline…

First trailer for Disney’s “Wreck-It Ralph” released.

No, I don’t know either. But here it is:

Report: Samuel L. Jackson joins “Robocop” remake.

The “Avengers” star will play a TV mogul in the remake of the 1987 film directed by Paul Verhooven.

TotalFilm reports:

“Jackson is set to play a character named Pat Novak, a charismatic TV mogul who carries a lot of sway in the universe being created by director Jose Padilha.

Jackson joins a cast that includes The Killing’s Joel Kinnaman as RoboCop himself, as well as Gary Oldman as the scientist responsible for the transforming plain old Alex Murphy into a mechanised law enforcer.

Filming on the project is expected to begin in Toronto in September, with MGM hoping to have the film ready in time for a release date somewhere around summer 2013.”

Criterion Cuts: “12 Angry Men”

One of the great courthouse dramas of all time.

M's avatarThe No-Name Movie Blog

Hello and welcome to the latest installment of Criterion Cuts, the weekly article where I dig into the archives of everyone’s favorite foreign/art house home video distribution company and unearth some obscurity and tell you just why it might be worth your time. As always, most of these come from the generous offerings available to Hulu Plus subscribers unless otherwise noted.

So recently Amazon decided to put a bunch of random Criterion Blu-Rays on sale for some reasonable-to-good prices, and in kicked my obsession with owning pretty Criterion releases. For anyone who doesn’t know just how my madness works, if it was up to me I would own everything Criterion releases as soon as they put it out. Alas, since nobody has seen fit to give me a pile of money, I’ve had to come up some rules. Those rules are as follows:

  1. Always buy Blu-Ray
  2. Always wait until at least…

Snow White & The Huntsman

As I thought, Theron more than holds her own.

theamiology's avatartheamiology

Charlize Theron is probably the best-and fiercest- evil queen I have ever seen. Other celebs that already portrayed the evil queen include Sigouney Weaver in “Snow White: A Tale of Terror”, and more recently, Julia Roberts in “Mirror Mirror”. And while I haven’t seen those two films, I am quite certain that Charlize Theron will hold the crown as the baddest bitch in the game.

And while I may not consider myself as a Kristen Stewart fan, (I haven’t seen any of those ‘Twilight’ sequels, and I am not bothered.), I was quite surprised that she can actually act. And Good Heavens, this girl is gorgeous! She delivered an exceptional portrayal of Snow White–tough and fragile at the same time. I am now convinced that Kristen Stewart is one of the best actresses that we have in our generation.

Chris Hemsworth, on the other hand, gave us one of the most…
