Jane Levy, Bruce Campbell Talk “Evil Dead: This One’s Not Funny.

With filming about to get underway in New Zealand on the reboot of the original Sam Raimi-directed canon of zombiepocalypse films, new star Jane Levy and vet Bruce Campbell spent a few minutes talking about what to expect — and not expect — from the new films.

First up, here’s Levy:

“I’m a big fan of the original. To me it’s the scariest movie, ever. But this one is really different. They’ve changed it a lot, but it’s still a pretty gory movie. My mom probably can’t see it. As for the tone, I think the humor in the first one came from the special effects of the time. I don’t know that they meant it to be funny…this one is not funny. It’s definitely dark.”

And here’s Campbell on the return of “evil trees”:

“They’re not terribly well-behaved this time either.”

In New “Avengers” Image, The Focus Is On Thor.

There’s been plenty of action in Avengers-land this week as the buzz builds towards this spring’s release of the Joss Whedon-helmed superteam flick.

So to keep the momentum going, here’s a shot of Christopher Hemsworth (Thor) and Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson) conferring seriously on something-or-another.

If you saw last year’s “Thor” then you probably remember that there’s a bit of a history between these two characters. It’ll be interesting to see how that shakes out.

The Avengers is released May 4.

Wandering Through “John Carter’s” Mars.

The folks over at ComingSoon have their account of visiting the set of next month’s “John Carter,” the Disney-backed re-imagining of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic pulp tales:

Here’s the nut graf:

“Plans for a feature film version go back almost as far as the character himself, but the elaborate fantasy of Barsoom has always been a challenge to bring to life. It wasn’t until an Oscar after-party in 2004 (the night Finding Nemo won “Best Animated Feature”) that Stanton realized he might wind up even tangentially involved in the project’s production.

“I bumped into Robert Rodriguez and he was about to do it,” Stanton recalls. “I was seething with jealousy, not that I thought I’d be able to do it, but just that someone was going to do it. As a fan and because I knew him I said, in the most loving way, ‘Don’t f–k it up! Don’t screw it up! I just really, really want to see it done right.’ He said, ‘Oh, no, no, no!’ I said, ‘Here’s how I would open it! You can have it!’ He said, ‘Lay it on me! Lay it on me!’ I pretty much thought, ‘Okay, it’s finally going to make it to the screen!’ Then he had a falling out with the DGA in the middle of making ‘Sin City’ and it just kind of fell apart. Then it went to Kerry Conran, who did ‘Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.’ I was always following from afar as a fan going, ‘Is it going to make it?'”

Spidey’s Stunt-Double Speaks.

Ilram Choi, who did all the hard work for “Amazing Spiderman” star Andrew Garfield lets loose a few details on the upcoming reboot of the webbed superhero:

“For how long have you worked on The Amazing Spider-Man?

About a year and a half.

Did you have to wear the Spider-Man costume during some of your shooting? Was it somehow limiting your movements or not?

Yes, it was pretty flexible and didn’t limit the movements except for the vision. It was hard to see at times.

Did you worked directly with the director, Marc Webb, and with the main actor, Andrew Garfield? Can you tell us something about it?

Yes, worked with both. They were both very nice and talented at what they did. We were all very communicative about the Spider-Man character. We all shared the same vision of how spiderman should move.

Bond Star Naomie Harris Talks “Skyfall.”

TotalFilm catches up with actress Naomie Harris who’s co-starring in the Sam Mendes-directed 23rd installment of the James Bond franchise “Skyfall.”

While details of the Daniel Craig-starring film are being kept strictly under wraps, she does share some details of her training regiment and few other tidbits:

“On the training she’s been doing in preparation, she told us, “I started off with yoga and running, and I’ve been doing stunt training and gyrotonics three times a week.”

When we asked if Eve was an ally or a baddie, she responded, “My character would like to see herself as a female Bond but I don’t think anyone’s really a match for Bond.”

And has she done many stunts? “I kickbox and do a lot with guns. I started off terrified by the sound of a gun, let alone having any idea of how to hold one but now I really enjoy it.”
