Fantastic Four Reboot In The Works.

Chronicle” director Josh Trank is apparently being eyed by Fox to help relaunch Marvel’s original superteam, according to Daily Blam.

Citing reports in Variety, the website reports that Trank “has had several meetings regarding the project, but with his debut feature still three weeks away, insiders say that Fox is expected to wait to see how ‘Chronicle’ opens over Super Bowl weekend before extending an official offer.”

The Daily Blam notes that Fox owns the rights to several Marvel properties, including “The X-Men” which was successfully relaunched last year with “X-Men: First Class” (in fact, a sequel is apparently in the works); Daredevil (which bowed in 2007 with Ben Affleck in the lead role) and “The Fantastic Four.”

The FF, as it’s known to fans, lasted for two films (2005, 2007) with Ioan Gryffud and Jessica Alba starring. But fans never really warmed up to the movies.

An IMDB page for the relaunched movie has little in the way of information. Actors rumored to be attached to the movie have included Adrien Brody and Amber Heard.

Silent Film Stars: Looking Great Without Saying A Word.

Since there’s going to be a whole ton of ink expended on the red carpet styles during tonight’s Golden Globes ceremony in Los Angeles, now seemed like as good a time as any to highlight this Guardian retrospective on the best in silent film style.

That’s star Louise Brooks who starred in the 1929 classic “Pandora’s Box.” Dig the timeless flapper’s bob.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you “The Sheik” himself, Rudolf Valentino:

And the starlet of all starlets — Clara Bow:

It’s pretty amazing to think about the limitations that these actors worked under. Without sound, they had to convey all the energy and emotion it takes to make a movie come to life. But they had to do it without uttering a word. Pretty amazing, if you ask me.

Here’s the trailer for “Moonrise Kingdom,” director Wes Anderson’s long-awaited new film.

The movie stars Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton. An official synopsis describes the film thusly:

“Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore — and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl. Directed by Anderson, and co-written with Roman Coppola. In theaters: May 25th, 2012.”

Depp stars as the vampire Barnabas Collins. Pfeiffer stars as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard. The movie hits theaters on May 11.

Here’s a synopsis:

The soap ran from 1966 to 1971. It was remade as a television series in the 1990s with British actor Ben Cross starring as Barnabas.

Is Rooney Mara Using Fashion To Wage An Oscar Bid?

"Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Star Rooney Mara (Daily Beast Photo)

That’s the intriguing question posed in The Daily Beast this morning about the “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” star, who’s been turning heads across the globe with a series of striking red carpet outfits.

The Daily Beast’s Isabel Wilkinson writes:

“Since she graced the cover of Vogue in November, one thing has been clear: Rooney Mara is a fashion force. In her public appearances, her aesthetic is dark and edgy, usually a little revealing, and always extremely sleek. It’s a long way from the baby-doll pastels, ruffles, and prints she wore as late as 2009.

If Salander were forced to do red carpet appearances, this, surely, is what she would wear. The Prabal Gurung dress Mara wore to the New York premiere had, according to the designer, “a feminine appeal but the overall look showed such strength and depth…much like the character she plays in the film.

In a way, Mara seems to be quietly running an Oscar campaign through her fashion. The Academy loves personal transformation (see Charlize Theron inMonster) and ingénues (Ellen Page in Juno). Through her fashion choices, Mara appears to embody her character in a permanent campaign, which could appeal to the Academy’s sensibilities. But veteran stylist Jessica Paster says appearing too fashion-forward in the carefully styled world of Hollywood is a risk.

“When you dress too edgy, Oscar people don’t get it,” she said. “When someone is an up-and-comer, [stylists] often try to make her into a cookie-cutter starlet. It’s nice that people are allowing Rooney to be herself.”
